In Cal Vila we have already finished the harvest. In fact, it was probably the shortest and fastest harvest in history, and also one of the worst. The effects of climate change, this time in the form of drought, have had a very negative impact on the Penedès vineyards, including ours. Few grapes, weak vines, dry soil.
The accumulated drought – last year there was also a lack of water – for the second consecutive year, has meant that this year’s grape production has been significantly much lower than last year or previous years. However, the quality of the grapes is excellent and very healthy.
The effects of global warming are a challenge for farming and put viticulture at risk in places like the Penedès. The vineyard has a dry look that older people don’t remember ever experiencing. We wish for rains to come soon.
